This festival of Dhanteras falls in the month of Kartik (Oct-Nov) on the thirteenth day of the dark fortnight or Krishan paksh. This auspicious day is celebrated two days before the festival of lights, Diwali. 1. “Dhan” is truely refers Dhanvantri. Its mis conception in north india that dhan is for money and buying things. For money , Lakshmi poojan is done on Diwali it self, then why on Dhan Teras.
Dhan teras should only be celebrated as you have rightly said, by donating medicines, or saying prayers for good health of all.
