Introduction on Amavasya – Amavasya Calendar – Amavasya Dates
In Indian Astrology, Amavasya or No Moon night or New Moon day has a significant religious and spiritual significance. Amavasya marks the beginning of the period of Shukla Paksha or waxing Moon. Amavasya is thought to be an ideal time for remembering and worshipping one’s ancestors and departed family members. It is thought that when the Moonlight is not present, the forefathers who have passed away come down to meet their children and descendants.
This day is designated as pitris by the Vishnu Dharma Sashtra (spirits of the ancestors). During Amavasya, their feelings are aggravated and extreme. They would feel much more imbalanced on Amavasya if they are psychologically unbalanced. The gravitational force of the moon forces everything upwards on this day, including your blood and energy. This effect is caused by an excessive flow of blood in our brain and an excessive flow of energy in our body.
The Importance of the Somvati Amavasya
This Somvati Amavasya is Amavasya that falls on a Somvar or Monday. This is a one of the most auspicious days to fast. According to Hindu belief, an unmarried girl or woman who fasts and worships Lord Shiva would find a suitable husband. This day, if observed by a married woman, aids in the prevention of widowhood. Not only that but on this day, couples who want to start a family are encouraged to fast. Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati grant all of the wishes of those who worship them on this day.
