Navratri is the most popular and auspicious festival celebrated throughout India concerning Devi Maa. Like other festival in India, Navratri is also celebrated differently in different parts of India.

To please or to worship Goddess Durga, Navratri is celebrated with devotion and dedication. During this nine night festival of Navratri, nine different forms of Maa Durga are worshipped. Fasting during this period is Auspicious and brings happiness, wealth, health. It gives strength to overcome obstacles in life and overpower enemies. Here are some of the dos and don’ts during Navratri listed which are to be followed by all devotees. As Do’s are most important while worshipping Goddess Durga, Don’t are much more important to be considered.

Do’s during Navratri:

First of all, wake up early in the morning. After taking bath, sprinkle some water outside your home’s main door as by doing this Goddess Durga is pleased. This is the remedy also to please Goddess Luxmi. You can perform this remedy regularly as Goddess Luxmi loves cleanliness.

Enlight Akhand Jyot in front of Goddess Durga for all 9 days.

Eat only Satvic Food that is your food should not include: onion, garlic etc. and only once in a day.

Give some bhog or offering to Goddess every day; if not possible then milk, fruits, dry fruits should be offered.

Visit temple or perform Puja daily in the morning and evening by lighting lamp and reading Durga Chalisa.

Offer some gifts to your Girls, preferably below 10 years of age as younger girls are considered as Avatar’s of Goddess.

Wear neat and clean clothes daily, keep yourself clean. Though one should keep himself/herself clean everyday but on the days of Navratras, devotees ought to be more particular about cleanliness.

Chant all the mantras as well as slokas of Maa Durga and pray to cleanse your Past Karmas.

Recite Mantra “सर्व मंगल मांगल्ये शिवे सर्वार्थ साधिके । शरन्ये त्रयम्बिके गौरी नारायणी नमोस्तुते ।।”

Don’ts during Navratri:

Do not cut nails / visit beauty parlor / cut hair all these days. Do not get tempted by fashion, materialistic desires and lead a simple life.

Do not stitch or knit anything during all Navratras.

Do not lie or use harsh words for others as it is not considered good and create ill effect.

Do not dirty your home specially Puja Room/Place also your Kitchen. Keep it clean and full of positive energy.

Do not wear slipper in the house for all these 9 days especially in the puja room.

Avoid Television/ News/ Serials/ Movies that bring negativity and involve yourself in embracing positive energy only.

Follow these simple rules and truly Maa Durga will bless you always. It is to be believed that after performing all 9 days fast with true and pure heart, one’s wish is fulfilled.

Can we make Love during Navratri

Avoid kissing, Lovemaking during the period of Navratri as this period is for spiritual awakening and not for bodily pleasures.

Can Marriage be done in Navratri

Some people want to know if Marriage can be done during Navratri. Then kindly note that Navratri is a very Auspicious period and marriage can surely be done, unless Venus or Jupiter are combust in the sky.
