Navratri is a nine-day Hindu festival celebrated twice a year, in the months of Chaitra (March-April) and Ashwin (September-October). During this festival, devotees worship the goddess Durga and observe fasts to seek her blessings. Here are some dos and don’ts to follow during the period of Navratri:

Do’s during Navratri:

Observe fasts: It is believed that fasting during Navratri helps in purifying the mind and body. You can choose to observe a complete fast or partial fast by eating fruits, milk, and other light food items.

Offer prayers: Offer prayers to the goddess Durga during this period. You can visit a temple or perform puja at home.
Follow a sattvic diet: During Navratri, it is recommended to eat a sattvic diet that includes fruits, vegetables, milk, and nuts. Avoid eating non-vegetarian food, alcohol, and smoking.

Wear traditional clothes: It is customary to wear traditional clothes during Navratri. Women can wear sarees or lehengas, and men can wear dhoti-kurta or traditional attire.

Practice meditation: Meditate daily to calm your mind and increase your focus. It is believed that meditation helps in connecting with the divine energy.

Don’ts during Navratri:

Avoid non-vegetarian food: It is recommended to avoid non-vegetarian food during Navratri. This is because it is believed that non-vegetarian food increases the Tamas guna, which is not conducive to spiritual growth.

Avoid all fast-foods, canned food, and foods prepared using onion or garlic should be avoided.

Avoid alcohol and smoking: It is advisable to avoid alcohol and smoking during Navratri as it can lead to physical and mental imbalance.

Avoid negative thoughts: Try to maintain a positive mindset during Navratri. Avoid negative thoughts and actions that can affect your spiritual growth.

Avoid cutting nails and hair: It is believed that cutting nails and hair during Navratri is inauspicious. So, avoid doing so during this period.

Avoid staying up late: It is advisable to avoid staying up late during Navratri as it can affect your health and well-being. Try to maintain a regular sleep schedule.

Avoid physical relationships: It is believed that devotes during the period of Navratri should avoid having physical relationship.
