KeymasterVedic Astrology, also known as Jyotish Shastra, is the ancient system of astrology that originated in India thousands of years ago. The word “Jyotish” means “science of light,” and it is considered a sacred spiritual science connected with the Vedas, the ancient scriptures of India. Vedic astrology studies the positions and movements of planets, stars, zodiac signs, and constellations at the time of a person’s birth to understand their personality, karma, life events, strengths, challenges, and spiritual path.
Unlike Western astrology, which mainly uses the tropical zodiac, Vedic astrology follows the sidereal zodiac, which is based on the actual fixed positions of constellations in the sky. This often causes differences in zodiac signs between the two systems. Vedic astrology gives great importance to the Moon sign, Nakshatras (lunar constellations), planetary periods known as Mahadashas, and divisional charts like the Navamsha (D-9).
In Vedic astrology, the nine main planetary influences are called Navagrahas — Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Rahu, and Ketu. These planets are believed to influence different aspects of life such as career, marriage, health, wealth, education, spirituality, and relationships. Astrologers analyze the birth chart, known as the Kundli or horoscope, to make predictions and provide guidance.
Vedic astrology is not only used for prediction but also for understanding karmic patterns and spiritual growth. It emphasizes that planetary positions indicate tendencies and karmic influences, but human effort, wisdom, discipline, and free will also play an important role in shaping life. Many people consult Vedic astrologers for guidance regarding marriage compatibility, career decisions, finances, health matters, and favorable timings known as Muhurta.
