The system is so embedded in the society that even in the case of love marriages, family insist on doing a Guna Milan of the horoscope. Mostly astrologers and pandits follow a system which is complete in all respect for marital life of a person. It covers general compatibility, behaviour, sexual compatibility, progeny etc. Guna Milan is simply a complete process of horoscope matching in itself and nothing else needs to be given attention for the purpose of matching for the marriage. Guna Milan is based on the birth Nakshatra, that is the Nakshatra in which Moon was posited at the time of birth. As only Moon is taken into consideration during Guna Milan this in itself is simply incomplete Matching and therefore marriage decision purely based on the basis of Guna Milan is not recommended. It is strongly suggested that Grah Milan (Matching of the Planets) in the horoscope is complete Horoscope Matching where all planets are taken into consideration along with the Moon and also the 7th house which is the house of Spouse, Marriage and Marital life.
Guna Milan for Marriage
For those who are new and are not familiar with the system of gun Milan, let me explain that the system of guna Milan is based on matching 8 aspects or koots from both of the horoscopes. These are Varna, Vashya, Tara, Yoni, Grahmaitri, Gana, Bhakoot and Nadi. All of these 8 koots are assigned 1 to 8 points or gunas respectively which make a total of 36. The final score is calculated for a particular horoscope matching or match making based on how good or bad is the matching of each one of these 8 koots. Bhakoot and Nadi dosha which have 7 and 8 points respectively are most important because Bhakoot deals with compatibility between the two horoscopes to lead a blissful life. While Nadi deals with health and progeny and a dosha in any can severely spoil the pleasures of marriage in ones life.
The minimum considered is 18 guna or points for a good marriage life. Points below 18 the matching should be avoided because the compatibility is less then 50 % . Incase there is a Bhakoot or Nadi dosha or even both, the marriage alliance should be avoided as the chances of troubles marriage or separation are very strong.

What is Graha Milan
Grah Milan or Matching of all the Planets are the correct method for Horoscope Matching or Kundli Milan, where Guna Milan is one of the components. In Graha milan all planets are looked into along with the Moon and deep analysis is done of the 7th house , its lord and benefic and malefic afflictions on the 7th house. Remember that all planets have a very important role to play in the life of an individual and it is not only the moon. Therefore the Online Horoscope matching that is available on the internet is not complete as it ignores the Grah milan. The online Horoscope matching is just calculated based upon birth Nakshatras of the individuals.
